Mechanically Unreliable March 10, 2010 Berry Gibson I am now on my second HP PhotoSmart Printer. The first one was so poor with paper jams that with the last jam, so a wad of about 30 pages was stuck in the printer against the printer heads. This drained most the ink and ruined the cartridges. In addition, removing the paper caused a little plastic piece to break inside which rendered the printer unusable. All of this was after 4 hours of technical support on the phone to get the software installed and working.
Now on my second version, again I have frequent paper jams for no reason. You would think after making printers for this long, HP would have the optimum design figured out by now.
Twice dead on arrival March 9, 2010 R. Wotiz (Boston) I purchased the HP Photosmart C309 and proceeded to set it up. After pushing the "on" button, it proceeded to chug away for three or four minutes, then quit, emitted an error message and all the buttons flashed. I could not turn it off, so I unplugged it and when I plugged it back in, it immediately resumed the setup mode, went for about a minute and went back to its error mode of flashing. Nothing would make it escape from that condition so I made the mistake of calling HP. After an hour of trying to speak to an operator in India who neglected to take English as a second language and trying several key stroke combinations (apply power while holding down # and 3, the same with # and 6), I was tols I could pay to have ot fixed. I respectfully told him that I would exchange it with the dealer because it was new but he could not understand so I told him good-bye. I then arranged to exchange the printer with the dealer. At 11:02 pm the next night, the Indian guy called me at home and I reminded him that there was a time difference and that there was no need for us to talk.
Round 2: The replacement printer arrived and this one made it all the way through the test page. Then I setup the wireless feature whereupon it printed the wireless test page at the end of which I smelled a burning smell and back to the same error condition from the day before.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice ....
Regret! You'll soon feel the fool if you buy this printer! March 8, 2010 Swell Had it for months. It can't communicate wirelessly. If you buy this, you will regret it. I am quite proficient in PC and technical matters - this printer is only reliable in the frustration it brings. You were warned.
I am an HP kinda girl. March 4, 2010 Grace Stephania (Philadelphia PA)
I bought this HP Photosmart Premium All In One Printer for my mom since the Epson, Lexmark, Brothers, and Canon that she had are all broke within one year of purchase. I love HP products because they are reliable. I have a lot HP printers, but my oldest one is about 8 or 9 years old and it is still going strong.
My mom has been bothering me since her Epson printer broke and it took a tool on me to be woken up at all hours at night just to print her stuff.
Okay, the price is higher than many other printers out there, but I would pay the premium for once and for all
than pay half of the amount once or twice a year purchasing other printer brands.
The setup was easy, considering I had to connect four computers in the house for the wireless printing.
The color is crisp. What is not to like about HP?
The downside is that there are four inks for this printer: Cyan, Magenta, Black, and Yellow.
Getting the Xl size inks for all these four colors would cost about $ 100 with discount.
However, the cost print per page is very efficient, and also choosing the economical ways of printing helps reserve the ink conservatory.
After all, I am happy that I am not going to be waken up at midnight just to print my mom's stuff
and my mom can do her printing, copying, in her home office.
Another HP ink hog March 3, 2010 Bobbrun (OH USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
One huge mistake to buy this printer unless you want to spend lots of dollars for ink. I gave up a Photosmart 8250 to buy this printer and have been kicking myself everytime that I use the new one. It is extremely noisy, and as I said, a real ink hog. That has been a real issue with the new HP printers and fax machines. You think you are getting such a good deal in price, then find out that the ink cartridges are about 1/3 the size of the cartridges on older models, but cost the same or more. Then HP put out the 564XL which is supposed to double the print output, but, guess what....the cartridge does not fit the HP Photosmart Premium.
