 Badly Designed Paper Feeder March 14, 2010

Vertical paper feeder only catches the paper about 60% of the time. Other times printer gives me a load paper message when the feeder fails to catch it. I have to move around the paper for the feeder to catch it and sometimes, when it does catch it, feeder just spits it out to the other side without printing. Every other feature work fine but this particular design kills the deal. Also, the price for replacement ink cartridges is outrageous, about $56 at the chain office supply store. Some of the HP cartridges, for example, have less costly alternatives, such as generic brands from the chain office supply store itself. Epson appears to have a monopoly on this after deal hunting at different stores.
Next time I'll consider the price of replacement ink cartridges and the feeder design to be important factors in getting a printer instead of just looking at the purchase price.

My HP Deskjet did not support Snow Leopard so I bought this. You have to download Snow Leopard software as included disk does not have it. After about 1/2 hour of jumping through hoops I got it to print. Copies good, fax phone cord connection is in area and position that is very hard to get to. Faxed ok, scan very hard set up, certainly not anything like an Apple product. When two of us worked on scanning set-up for an hour we got it working.
scans are ok.

Printer was easy to set up and print quality is excellent. However, you have to suffer the high noise level to get high quality print. I am a deep sleeper and this thing could wake me up!

Haven't tried to print any photos yet, but the text print quality has been very good and sharp. It's pretty noisy, but the print speed is great, and the size and shape of the printer is convenient and attractive.
